Spicers Tamarind Retreat
A short drive from Maleny, Spicers Tamarind Retreat is a beautiful Asian-influenced luxury retreat tucked away within the rainforest. It boasts an onsite spa, cooking school, bushwalk to Gardners Falls and a host of free guest activities.
It’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A few days here will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. Whether you choose to relax in one of the villas or head to the onsite Spa Anise for a pampering experience, you’ll be left with memories that will last forever.
The rooms at Spicers Tamarind Retreat are all villa format, with many having their own cedar hot tub and outdoor deck. Our two-bedroom Luxury Forest Villa was tucked away down a tree-lined path overlooking the rainforest. It was a peaceful spot to sit back and listen to the sounds of birds chirping in the distance and the crashing of nearby Gardners Falls (if you’re lucky enough to be there on a rainy day, it’s an excellent place for a picnic lunch).
Our room had a large open lounge area with a wood-burning fireplace. It also had a separate dining room and kitchen. There were a number of little touches here that made it feel really homely, from a well-stocked pantry with coffee and tea to heated towel racks for those warm Queensland nights.
Another great feature of this retreat is the resident horticulturalist Aaron, who took us around the 18 acres and showed us some of the lesser known elements that make this retreat such a special part of the Hinterland landscape. He was incredibly knowledgeable and incredibly generous with his time.
In addition to its stunning stand-alone spa, the retreat boasts a culinary masterclass, a bushwalk to Gardners Falls and a range of free guest activities like mountain bike riding and cocktail making classes. You can even book in a photography session with Ben Messina, a renowned award winning Australian landscape photographer.
For those who prefer to relax, the spa has four treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy pool that looks out over the rainforest. It has a huge variety of treatments to help you look and feel your best, so be sure to take advantage of it during your stay.
Spicers Clovelly Estate
If you’re looking for a luxury hotel that’s a little bit different from the others on the sunshine coast, Spicers Clovelly Estate is the perfect place to stay. It’s a boutique property that sits in the heart of the Sunshine Coast hinterland and is renowned for its stunning architecture.
There are just 17 rooms spread across the grounds so this is a great option for couples and small groups. It’s also perfect for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway.
While the property is beautiful, what makes it even more special is its incredibly attentive and friendly staff. They genuinely care about every single guest and make sure you feel at home. The team is very knowledgable about what they do and are always on hand to answer any questions you may have.
The grounds of Clovelly Estate are filled with grand figs, groves of magnolias and shaded jacarandas. They’re a true oasis in the middle of the Queensland countryside and the French provincial architecture of the main house really makes you feel like you’re in Provence.
Located just 1km from the village of Montville, this is a great base to explore the region. There are plenty of local wineries and charming towns in the area, as well as Kondalilla Falls National Park.
You can enjoy all of this from the comfort of your suite, which features heated marble bathrooms and lavish linens. There are even some gorgeous outdoor terraces for taking in the sun on a hot day.
One of the best things about staying at Spicers Clovelly Estate is that it has a beautiful, onsite restaurant. The Long Apron is a two-hatted restaurant that serves up incredibly creative food. Head Chef Cameron Matthews and his team take amazing local, seasonal produce and create meals that will knock your socks off.
The Long Apron is the epitome of a luxury dining experience and is definitely worth booking in for if you’re visiting Spicers Clovelly Estate. The menu changes seasonally, so be prepared for some hit and miss dishes but overall the quality of everything is very high.
